STATION THREE
Jesus Falls for the First Time

Mixed media oilgraph on canvas with blood
36"x36"

In this Station we see Jesus falling beneath His cross. Does He reach out to protect Himself in fear? Or out of the frustration of having let go of His burden?

We are asked to contemplate "Where in our own lives do we fall?"

Scriptural reference implied.
Though Jesus falling along His journey to Golgotha is not explicitly depicted in scripture, it can be safely assumed that He fell probably numerous times given that Simon of Syrene was forced into carrying the cross for him.

"so soon...

(It wasn't to be this soon)

he barely made the first hill

(I thought I could)

this is not Messiah
Messiah can overthrow nations
Messiah can crush mountains to powder
no...no Messiah
no God

look at him tremble

(I can't)

is that fear we see?
are those tears?

get up! You block the road!
what is it?

or did God at last
create the rock
he could not lift?
