Jesus is Stripped

Here before all eyes, the soldiers stripped Jesus of everything. Even though He was unable to even stand on His own, I believe the one thing they could not take was His dignity.

We are asked to contemplate "Are you capable of being robbed of your dignity? What is the one thing that cannot be taken from you?"

in horror
in dark curiosity
and now some
for the first time
look away

legs like sunken reeds
you feel your tide
pull back from its shore
growing colder
and waiting for the great wave
that is to come
and crush your breath into the air

clothes torn and gambled away
like trophies from a hunt
and there are no winners
