The story that inspired the series. Nearly all stories in Judges are tragic, but none so like the story of Jephthah’s Daughter. God called Jephthah to defeat the Ammonites and promised him victory. But despite this promise, Jephthah made a rash vow to sacrifice as a burnt offering whatever greeted him upon his return. It was his only daughter.

There is much debate over whether he actually sacrificed his own daughter, but in the end the text is clear. “And he did to her as he had vowed.”

This piece was painted live in Huntington, TX on October 25, 2009. The video of its creation is HERE.
