TEN TO MIDNIGHT - GERMANY 1944 (SOLD)
Mixed media OilGraph on panel with gunpowder and blood // 24x24
From the new gunpowder series WARCRY
Photographed on Tri-X with a Mamiya RB67
My friend's father collected bullets like postage stamps. When he passed they were all up for grabs. This one jumped out at me.
Was this intended for a US soldier? Or was it one of the last bullets of a soldier towards the end of the war saved as a witness to all he experienced?
I wasn't going to include the shadow, but to me it looked like a clock dial. It was a particular challenge because photographing a single bullet leaves very little to hide behind.
This entire series is a departure for me. Because of the elements I have very little control on the direction a piece takes. The gunpowder does what the gunpowder does and every time I use it I risk destroying the piece altogether. Which is kinda awesome.
