STATION 1: Production Mock-up
STATION 1: Production Mock-up
These are the printing mock-ups where the final composition and compositing are worked out before going into the darkroom. Printing notes would then be added in the darkroom and when completed, the mock-up would be used as a guide for when the prints are glued to the final panel. The percentages marked on the image are exposure notes indicating if parts of the image were to be printed lighter or darker.
Here we see the original light test along with the final composition of the panel. The “Gallery of Witnesses” was added to the top along with an empty arch as a way to include the audience symbolically into the scene. They include both the mockers and sympathizers as well as Barabbas who was also played by Paolo Durrazzo who acted as Jesus. In the painting all of the background elements would be painted out.
