STATION 15 - The Resurrection: Production Mock-up

STATION 15 - The Resurrection: Production Mock-up

from $25.00

These are the printing mock-ups where the final composition and compositing are worked out before going into the darkroom. Printing notes would then be added in the darkroom and when completed, the mock-up would be used as a guide for when the prints are glued to the final panel. The percentages marked on the image are exposure notes indicating if parts of the image were to be printed lighter or darker.

This was the final and most complicated of the series. And the hardest to execute. The Stations were already on their way to the conference in Kentucky when production began. It is comprised of nineteen separate prints from fifteen different photos. The angel was created from seven different takes in order to create the supernatural appearance of multiple moments all happening at once, namely the angel’s declarations of “Do not be afraid!” - “He is not here for He has risen.” and “Go tell the disciples.” The tomb was a model carved out of foam and the three women were photographed during the initial production of the Stations.

The initial idea was to complete the preparation of the work in Los Angeles for it to be driven to the conference in Kentucky by friends and perform the final painting for the audience. My friends decided to fly instead which left me with the only option of placing all the loose elements including the stretcher bars, canvas and images into my suitcase and assemble everything there the night before the lecture. I finished at 7AM, just an hour before the lecture and performance began.

The Resurrection was painted live April 17, 2005 at the Worship, Arts and Liturgy Conference at Asbury Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
