STATION 12: Forsaken - The Crucifixion (Jesus Dies Alone)
STATION 12: Forsaken - The Crucifixion (Jesus Dies Alone)
Mixed media oilgraph on canvas with blood // 36” x 36"
But why? In this moment, which Jesus could have avoided if He so choose, took upon Himself every horror and every wrong done from the beginning of time, to us and by us, and paid for it with His own blood. Because that is what a loving God does for a world in pain.
“My son...
From the first to the last there was no other way
Beginnings need ends
In the far off country
no eye can see
you now move beyond words
This world will not listen to words
This world speaks in blood
so you cry back with your own
The wrath of a thousand thousand wars
and the cries of a billion innocents and lost
call out for a chance
one chance
for hope
Now the horizon of all history
broken and longing
gathers to a knife point and in a final human breath
you throw yourself first upon the blade
Ends need beginnings
This is your story
It will not be erased
nor the door of Heaven shut
(for those who want of such things)
and nothing
will ever be the same again
My son...come to me
It is accomplished”

This is the only Station in which Jesus’ face is hidden in order to show his isolation. I chose not to show the cross for the same reason. During the painting I chose to cut in two curved lines at the bottom to give the impression of an eye which would be God’s witness of his son dying.
